England midfielder Jordan Henderson admits he has faced "difficult moments" since leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and acknowledges he might "taken different decisions".

The experienced player received backlash for exiting Liverpool in 2023 to join Al-Ettifaq in a nation where same-sex relationships are against the law.

Henderson had previously been a vocal champion of LGBTQ+ rights and apologized for disappointing or hurting members in the community when he exited Saudi Arabia to sign with Ajax following a six-month period.

England Career and Thoughts

Henderson missed out on Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but has come back to the Premier League with Brentford and England's selection under Thomas Tuchel.

"I don't think it was the factor why I missed the Euros," Henderson commented. "When I was in Saudi I think I was in each gathering before the Euros."

"Timing, with the situation in hindsight, yes - perhaps I would have taken different decisions."

"But at the time that's how I believed and the decision I made was for numerous reasons and I alone know the rationale."

Personal Challenges

"I am not going to lie, over the past few years I have had several tough moments. It was similar to a separation when I left Liverpool."

"Of course I'm not flawless and I've made mistakes in the past. Certainly I will have over my career."

"But all I've ever attempted to do is the right thing."

International Experience

Henderson has won 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to compete against Wales and Latvia this week and believes he still has plenty to provide on the pitch.

"The most important people are the coach, the technical staff and the players and what they think," said Henderson.

"Ask them what they feel, if I am a supporter when I am here. I don't think one of the finest managers in Europe would be picking me just to do that."
